High School Redesign Meeting Date Change
From Carole Smith, Superintendent:
On Tuesday, with the PTA as our co-host, we held the first of nine meetings (one at each neighborhood high school campus) to discuss high school system design and the core offerings we plan for each of our community comprehensive schools. More than 500 parents, students and PPS staff from the Grant area turned out to ask questions and to offer their perspectives on the high school design work.
Just as they did at Grant, participants in each of the upcoming meetings on neighborhood campuses will have their own unique views - their own particular legacy of PPS successes and shortcomings in their area, and their own hopes looking forward to next year's conversation about locations for our community schools.
I want to hear from each and every neighborhood high school community.
Originally, we had planned for two meetings a night, November 30 to December 3. We now have a new schedule:
Monday, Nov. 30 - Lincoln High School, 1600 S.W. Salmon St.
Tuesday, Dec. 1 - Jefferson High School, 5210 N. Kerby Ave.
Wednesday, Dec. 2 - Roosevelt Campus, 6941 N. Central St.
Thursday, Dec. 3 - Franklin High School, 5405 S.E. Woodward St.
Tuesday, Dec. 8 - Cleveland High School, 3400 S.E. 26th Ave.
Wednesday, Dec. 9 - Marshall Campus, 3905 S.E. 91st Ave.
Thursday, Dec. 10 - Wilson High School, 1151 S.W. Vermont St.
Tuesday, Dec. 15 - Madison High School, 2735 N.E. 82nd Ave.
All meetings are from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Throughout the high school design effort, we've been trying to keep the community engaged in meaningful ways at each step in the decision-making, while also moving with the necessary urgency to make our high schools stronger and more equitable for all students.
I know some of you may already have marked the earlier dates on your calendar, and am sorry for the inconvenience. I really wanted to hear from each of you, and this is the only way I can make that happen.
I hope to see you there,
Carole Smith
Superintendent
